Our Story

Kaye’s Bakery has diversified into many complementary areas. The Kaye’s bakery range now includes not only biscuits and slices but they have added the famous Hopgood’s Mutton pie, sponges, fruit mince pies, loaves, kiwifruit export cookies, truffles and many more exciting edible treats to the bakery range. As well as producing high quality products under both the Kaye’s and Cottrell’s brands they also produce a whole range of items for other companies brands in the retail, wholesale and gift markets.

Our History

1978 was the start of it all; Kaye’s Bakery was established in Southland to become part of our great city’s history by Evan and Lois Penniall. Now more than 30 years on, their family still loves the southern lifestyle and the bakery business, sharing this enthusiasm with their employee’s, customers, suppliers and distributors creating an entire Kaye’s Bakery Community for everyone to be part of.

The success of their Bakery business has been built on the personal hands onapproach they take towards the production of high quality baked goods made from high quality ingredients, a philosophy of listening to what the customer has to say and adapting to changes in the market place, along with keeping to the look of the traditional home baked biscuits.

Starting from premises in Tisbury, Southland with a staff of five, Evan and Lois initially concentrated on baking biscuits and slices, along the way they moved into larger and more accessible bakery premises so they could make even more great bakery products, and be closer to their customers. Kaye’s Bakery is now firmly planted in Onslow Street, Invercargill, making as many fantastic bakery products as they can possibly fit into a day’s production.

The success of Kaye’s bakery has been built on the personal “hands on” approach they take towards the production of high quality baked goods made from the best ingredients available, a philosophy of listening to what the customer has to say and adapting to changes in the market place and the traditional home.

We know people are a lot busier than they ever use to be, and that fitting in a spot of home baking can actually be a challenge. Juggling work, family, sport and social commitments leaves little time for yourself sometimes, so why not relax with a fantastic yummy home style biscuit that we have lovingly prepared for you.

No guilt necessary! We enjoy baking biscuits and we greatly appreciate that our customers enjoy them also. We base all our recipes on what you yourself would make in your own kitchen, we just make them on a much larger scale because we have huge big ovens to make heaps of your favourite biscuits, for you, your family and friends to share.
